Commemorative Air Force

B-29/B-24 SQUADRON

The B-29/B-24 Squadron of the Commemorative Air Force, operates and maintains two of the rarest aircraft in the world. The only flyable B-29 Superfortress and the oldest and only flying B-24A Liberator in existence. The Squadron meets at the Cavanaugh Flight Museum (CFM) in Addison, Texas. The B-24A, Ol’927 is currently on display and operates a flight experience program at CFM where it is being maintained and operated at this world class facility.  The B-29, FIFI is currently at the Commemorative Air Force Museum Hangar in Midland, Texas. Here a major re-engine program is underway in an effort to return her to flying status. At that point, FIFI will join Ol’927 and be operated and maintained at CFM.
With over 400 members from across America and the world, our volunteers come from all walks of life & contribute in many different ways, from administration to maintenance and flight crews. Opportunities to support the continued preservation of these aircraft as well as participation in their operation is available to all members.

 B-29 FIFI Reaches Another Milestone
On Wed. Sept 9, 2009, B-29 SuperFortress FIFI reached another milestone in its long journey back into the skies!
After a night of rain, Wednesday dawned bright and clear and FIFI was nudged out on the ramp behind the CAF Hangar. Surrounded by CAF Staff and local Midland/Odessa media representatives, B-29/B-24 Squadron Crew Chief Dave Miller and Safety Officer John Flynn fired up the B-29s first of four new engines. The props began to spin and the smoke rippled out of the engine as it roared to life in a successful first public run.

Many thanks are owed to the volunteers who have worked tirelessly to bring FIFI to this point! BUT, there is still a long way to go and this majestic bomber needs your help to stay on this journey.

If you are interested in helping to support FIFI, please consider making a donation by calling Lindsey Pena at CAF Headquarters toll free
at (877) 767-7175 or sending a check payable to the AAHF and note: B-29 OTF, and mail to P.O. Box 62000, Midland, TX 79711-2000.
Your contribution will be directed to the B-29 Fund.
