Commemorative Air Force

B-29/B-24 SQUADRON

The preparation for OL’ 927’s engine change is coming along nicely.  As the pictures below indicate, #3 is just about ready to come off the wing.  Since this picture was taken, further progress has been accomplished including the removal of the exhaust ring and other accessories.  The mechanics are in the process of disconnecting the last lines from the engine.  The picture below shows Chris Trobridge and Brian Heeg disconnecting the prop governor from the engine casing.

Others are preparing the airframe and the rest of the engines for annual inspection, while others are preparing the newly overhauled engine for installation.  The second photo shows Walt Hawkins and Bill Morton preparing the new engine for installation.

The squadron would like to again extend our appreciation to the Cavanaugh Flight Museum for the loan of their “spare” Pratt & Whitney 1830.

The squadron intends to begin work on the installation of an historic radio rack in OL’ 927 this year as well.  Chris Trott is in the process of determining the radios needed and their correct installation.  Updates on this process can be found at:

Hope everyone is having a festive holiday season,
Chris Trobridge
